The Leaf

Could it be you are a god

As you love me like one

I hold you tightly in my limbs

Yet somehow you slip away

My pain exposed and raw

On a hook to be cured

To feed, feed, feed

My children and my world

And you, my beloved god

Cannot change this for me

Only in falling to the ground

Does a leaf kiss the trunk

And lays in a bed of decay

To grow in love again

I like the connection between “limbs” and “trunk” — and are “you” the “Tree” and the “leaf” is love?

Great lines , Jackie. and they could even stand by themselves as a poem.

You could indeed, Jackie, write this as a Haiku as well. You only need to count the sylls and try to keep the meaning of your words. Some of my ku’s have been a result of cutting back and back a poem.. Funny how things work sometimes.
